To celebrate the Costume Institute exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, we at the Adrian G. Marcuse Library are delighted to share one of the newest acquisitions in the LIM College Archives: the couture edition of Visionaire 58 Spirit: A Tribute to Alexander McQueen.

We invite the LIM College community to join us for a viewing of this limited edition.

“Visionaire first featured the designs of Lee Alexander McQueen in 1996. Since that time, he has been a continuous inspiration and a presence in Visionaire. McQueen’s special commissions are among our most treasured contributions. His daring designs and challenging ideas of fashion have consistently excited and provoked us. In 2003, McQueen came to our SoHo office and gallery to discuss collaborating on an issue of issue that never came to be. This is our tribute to him.”

–Stephen Gan, Cecilia Dean, and James Kaliardos

In the spirit of Lee Alexander McQueen, contributors including Nick Knight, Lady Gaga, Steven Klein, Mario Sorrenti, Steven Meisel, Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin, David Sims, Mario Testino, Sean Ellis and Sebastian Faena, share images inspired by his unbridled creativity.

Design Studio created a special couture edition of Visionaire 58 SPIRIT for institutions and special collections. The couture edition features a hand embroidered metalized brocade inspired by one of McQueen’s final designs. The brocade covers the entire top and spine of the case, which is made from fine ivory-toned Italian leather accented with gold foil custom detailing. The collection of images is printed on paper embedded with wildflower seeds. When planted, watered, and given sun, the pages blossom. Only 70 copies of the couture issue were produced.

If you are unable to attend the viewing and would like to see the Visionaire or if you have any additional questions, please contact Lisa Ryan in the LIM College Archives
