On April 29, 2015 Women’s Wear Daily released the first issue of their, now, weekly magazine. After 105 years of publishing newspapers daily, WWD has decided to re-launch its brand as a, mostly, online publication. Women’s Wear Daily will now release a magazine once a week highlighting the content that they are known for- fashion, retail, runway, accessories, beauty, media and business. However, you can still get your daily fix of WWD content on their database via the Adrian G. Marcuse Library Database page.
I was fortunate enough to experience the re-launch party on April 28, 2015 through my internship at Lividini & Co. We were in charge of putting together the event which was held at the NoMad Hotel. A wide variety of industry notables came out to show their support for the publication. Some of our VIP guests included Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Carolina Herrara, Vera Wang, Donna Karan and Calvin Klein. CEO’s from department stores, as well as, other fashion houses were also in attendance. Overall, guests were impressed with the premier issue and supportive of Women’s Wear Daily’s distribution change.
This shift is just one example of the change in how media houses are deciding to publish their content. There is a push towards online and a pull away from hard copies. Even with this as the case, the library continues to carry hard copies of publications for loyal readers. Don’t forget to stop in and take a look at the premier copy of Women’s Wear Daily at the library. I am sure that you will be impressed by this coffee-table size issue!
