As we all know October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and although this month is almost over I figured there was still enough time to pay homage to the women of this world. I have chosen a few materials that are available in the Adrian G. Marcuse Library in honor of women who are breaking molds and empowering us to live our lives to the fullest.
First is a book for the books, #GirlBoss. Written by the founder of Nasty Gal, Sophia Amaruso, this book speaks to anyone with big dreams. It is a look into her life and the struggles she had to overcome to get where she is today. A definite must read for young entrepreneurs.
Next is book that spares no spunk. Bad Feminist, written by Roxane Gay, explores many different cultural scenarios from the viewpoint of a younger generation. It is a collection of essays, so a long attention span is not required, but I bet once you start you won’t be able to stop.
My last recommendation to get you into the lady-loving spirit is one of my personal favorites, A League of Their Own. It is a movie about the creation of the first ever women’s baseball league in America. With big names like Tom Hanks and Rosie O’Donnell this movie is guaranteed to make you laugh while highlighting the struggle of breaking traditions.
Check these materials, and many more like them, out at the Adrian G. Marcuse Library!
