and student workers alike love a good documentary—and when we have watched
everything we can find streaming on Netflix, we know that there are even more
to be found in the DVD section of the library.
Here are a few of my favorites:
film shows the arduous and stressful project of putting together the famous
September issue of Vogue magazine. Watch
legendary fashion world figures such as Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington, and
André Leon Talley doing the work they are famous for, and get inspired.
modeling is glamorous? Watch this
fascinating documentary, which tells the story of a professional model scout
and one of her discoveries, a 13-year-old Siberian girl named Nadya. This film raises many important questions
about the exploitative aspects of modeling and the fashion industry as a whole.
you have never seen Bill Cunningham’s New York Times video column, “On the
Street,” please follow this link and enjoy! If you have seen it, you know what a
wonderful spirit and charm Mr. Cunningham brings to the world of fashion, both
high and low, in New York. Keep an eye
out for him, riding his bicycle around the city and looking for interesting
people with a fresh take on clothing.
Thanks to library student workers Rachel, Joely, and Sheala for
all the documentary recommendations!
