New York Fashion Week’s iconic Lincoln Center location has taken a shift to Chelsea and West Village, where many new and upcoming brands have made their debuts to the public. Among the few seasoned and famous names such as Calvin Klein, BCBG Max Azria, and Tommy Hilfiger, come through a patch of newcomers who are taking the reins on Spring/Summer 2016 trends. Some of the brands have been on the sidelines of the public eye for a while, but with a push for focusing energies on what new talent exists, these labels have been able to build a larger following.
Some of the interesting brands which have hit the stage include Novis, Ohne Titel, and O’2nd Offical. These New York (Novis and Ohne) and Korea (O’2nd) based design labels have deconstructed the idea that the fashion industry is at its core a production dominated by major retailers. Season trends from the new designers include bold prints and colors, asymmetrical silhouettes, and futuristic touches. It’s interesting to see how new designers approach their material as opposed to established brands. Brands such as Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger have already their brand image and target market to the point that any new designs put out on the runway need to still speak to the consumer. Novis, Ohne, and O’2nd have the luxury of being able to experiment with their looks since they have less of an appeal in traditional retail settings and appeal to a more refined group of consumers. See below for some of their looks for the Spring/Summer 2016 season.
